For Immediate Release 3/25/17

Klamath Falls, Ore. - The Klamath Union Boys baseball squad opened up their home baseball season with two mercy rule losses to North Marion High School. The Pelicans were only able to plate five runs in the entire day, over two games.

Game One:

North Marion was able to strike first in the top of the first inning on a walk to Dylan Daubrava. Daubrava would subsequently steal second and third and score on a Sam Carter wild Pitch. The scoring would remain quiet until the top of inning number three when the Huskies posted two runs. North Marion was able to do all of the scoring with two outs. The same man who put North Marion up 1-0 in the first inning, Dylan Dubrava got the party started in the third inning with a single into left field. Daubrava would advance to third when pitcher Sam Carter attempted to pick him off at first but threw over the head of the first baseman, Austin Erickson, and score on a Nate Iliyn single to the right center gap. This would leave Iliyn on first for power hitter Hunter Schrenk. Schrenk would hit a double into right field, scoring Iliyn.

In the fourth inning, North Marion would take advantage of two Klamath Union errors, scoring six runs on four hits. Schrenk would smash another double in the inning, scoring two of the runs. Cameron Taylor would come in for Carter on the mound for the Pelicans.

In the bottom of inning number four, the stage was set for Sophomore first time varsity player, Tyller Jones. Runners were on second and third. Jones, who was brought up to varsity for just one day was at the plate, pinch hitting for John Harvey. Jones hit a single to center field, scoring the two runners and putting the Pels on the board. Jones would score on a Sam Carter double. Putting three runs on the board for the Pelicans.

In the fifth inning, North Marion would take advantage of three more KU errors and score three more times. Making the score in the fifth, 12-4 North Marion. The Huskies would post three final runs in the sixth inning to satisfy the mercy rule 15-4.

Milo Bilyeu would get the win for the Huskies. And Sam Carter would receive the loss.

Game Two:

In game two, things looked promising for the Pelicans. They were able to hold the attack of the Huskies back, allowing zero runs. However; in the second, the Huskies were able to score once. The Pelicans answered in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own.

The biggest inning for the Huskies would be the third, as they were able to score ten runs. Only 5 hits were scored for the Huskies in the inning, but two KU errors didn’t help things.

Scoring would stay low for the remainder of the competition. KU not scoring again, and North Marion would score four runs in the fourth and fifth, making the score 19-1. This would also make the game conclude in a mercy rule.

Mickey Luce would get the loss for the Pels.

The Pelicans look forward to playing in the North Valley Spring Break Classic and then starting league with Henley on the 11th of April.
