Craig Ronne; Still Winning This Summer

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.- Craig Ronne is an outstanding golfer for the Klamath Union Pelicans. He took the first place title in the state this last season, and is showing no signs of tuckering out. Craig also took the district championship, and the Skyline Conference individual honor. Craig, a senior in the next year, is still planning on competing in the top of the conference and state.

Craig left the spring golf season, but the spring golf season didn’t leave Craig. He started off his summer competing in Oregon Junior regional tournaments which consist of 1A-6A juniors that have been pegged by their coaches as the best of the best. Craig went to the tournament and won the last three events he competed in. Craig then traveled to San Diego to compete in the Junior World tournament. Which is a tournament for the best high school golfers in the world.

Ronne is planning and hoping on becoming the state champion at the state level again, as well as securing his team a victory at state. The Pelicans, with the help of Ronne, secured the second place spot at the OSAA 4A state golf tournament. “Getting a team victory [at state] is the most important thing.” Ronne said.

Looking forward, Craig stated that he wanted to participate in some non junior golf events and compete at a higher level in the near future.

In the end of the year polls, the Pels were predicted to finish first in the state next year. Craig plans to finish high school and then he is committed to golf at the University of Oregon. He was committed as a sophomore. Craig expressed great excitement when he talked about playing golf at UofO. Talking about the “great coach, great program, and great facilities.”

When asked what he would tell young golfers aspiring to be as good as Craig on the course, Ronne said “Patience and dedication is the key to golf. It is a very time demanding sport, it takes so much time because it is such a precise sport.” Ronne continued “Also, find the fun in the game.”

Craig is ranked as one of the top 15 golfers his age group in the country. He also holds the course record at Running Y Ranch Resort, the only Arnold Palmer designed golf course in the state of Oregon. Ronne is looking forward to playing golf in his final year at KU and in many years to come.
